ORIGINAL CONCEPT:
We at End The Cycle see the need in this nation to help encourage and reach the children of incarcerated parents. Please do not be misled, we also mentor children in the secular community as well.
The staggering truth is that 79% of children who have a parent in prison will follow them without some sort of counseling. As individuals, it is time to show these hurting youth how to choose something other than gangs, drugs and prison. These children need to know that it is possible for them to be "more than they can ever think or even imagine."
This will motivate the incarcerated parents to take parenting classes, reeducate themselves, participate in positive programming and get substance abuse training. It will also make the place of incarceration safer. Another great benefit will be to help the parent give the child a badly needed identity. We have placed the emphasis on hurting children.
To accomplish this monumental task, we will work closely with government agencies as well as with local faith-based organizations to ensure a balanced and stable environment for the optimum opportunity of positive results.
We will continue to monitor the parents throughout their incarceration to help maintain a high quality of assistance to the children. We will work to ensure a smooth transition back into the lives of the children and society.
The faith-based organization will be a liaison between our corporation and the Bureau of Prisons. It will be the center where the children will assemble to meet the Division of Children and Family Services (D.C.F.S.) worker, who will in turn assign all the travel teams and check destination assignments.
This program is the result of two decades of intense study and research by doctors, psychologists, ministers, educators, prison staff, prisoners, and other concerned parties. This is why we believe that this program will produce monumental results and success. Instead of trying to think for the participants in the project; we will instruct them on how to “change” their thinking.
All literature is specifically created by us, for the children based on their socio-economic backgrounds, as well as their particular culture, ethnicity and demographics in mind.
We will begin with a careful screening of the inmate population to determine a base number of potential visits from children. We will work closely with all correctional staff to ensure the safety of every child as well as the inmates and accompanying staff.
Once the base potential is established, we will begin the education process. This will be a lot easier than first expected. All of the existing programs such as A.A., N.A., mentoring, No Child Left Behind, will make implementation of this project much more simple. We already have over 100,000 children currently involved in the mentoring program.
The potential children will be screened and counseled for final approval through the D.C.F.S. personnel who will in turn work with the faith-based organizations to establish a drop-off and pick-up location for the children.
The faith-based organizations will assign chaperones to escort the children through the entire visiting process. These escorts will also go through extensive training.
All participants will be closely monitored and information will be gathered and analyzed frequently to better serve the needs of the children.
With the passing of each day more children are lost to a vicious cycle of gangs, drugs, abuse and prison. Remember, the main focus of the program is to "help reunite" the family, community, and society. This can only be done through a sense of love, mercy and grace.
Our research has shown that many men and women who get out of prison can't find jobs or a place to live and soon become homeless. We have began writing books and to teach about homelessness and drug or alcohol addiction. Many homeless Americans suffer from mental illness.
Always remember that nobody cares how much you know; until they know how much you care.
